Quo Vadis - The Australian Status Quo Tribute Show   Home

Status Quo attends Quo Vadis Gig at the Plough Inn in Brisbane...

Quo Vadis held a Status Quo "Welcome to Oz Party" at the Plough Inn Hotel in Brisbane on Friday, 3rd November 2000.

This had been planned for quite a while and of course it was no secret that Quo would be in town for the gig on Saturday night. Quo Vadis had personally invited the band to the party/gig but the tight schedule of Quo was always going to make it very difficult to organize such an event.....

Rick Parfitt was interviewed on FM104 MMM Rock radio station and Loretta Ryan played a rumour that Status Quo would be appearing at the Plough Inn as well. He said that the band was keen to see Quo Vadis play and that they would check it out ! Gig started at 8.30pm ...

Just about when Quo Vadis had finished their sound check, Tonto and Mike Hrano turned up, followed by Rhino and Dave Salt. And soon after they were joined by Matt and Paul.

Quo Vadis opened the set traditionally with Caroline and Roll Over Lay Down and the crowd at the Plough Inn got into the music right from the start. It was great to see the boys from Status Quo rocking away to their music but played by someone other than Quo !!

And then...in the middle of the first set - Rick Parfitt and David Walker appear. What a thrill!

"...to play Down the dustpipe and to sing Rick's harmonies while looking into that smiling face of Rick watching and tapping his foot away was a feeling they haven't invented a word for yet..." [Tina Marles, Bass]

Rick & Quo Vadis at the Plough Inn
(3rd November 2000)

Rick arrived to hear Roy Lynes playing on "Down the Dustpipe" and stayed at the gig for nearly two hours! Because all of Brisbane heard the rumour there were a lot of Quo fans around and Rick was signing plenty of autographs for the fans. He was fascinated by the Crew T-shirt our Roadies were wearing and said "... that's great - I want one!!!" And he was not the only one of Quo who liked the T-shirt - so Status Quo plus Crew were handed the Quo Vadis Crew T-shirt the next day at the Soundcheck.

"...while we were watching the tribute band .. [..]..Rick Parfitt, Rhino, David Walker, Tonto, Toot and other members of Quo's entourage turned up to watch. I got a kiss from Rick 'cos I told him it was my birthday the next day [..]. We enjoyed seeing/hearing Quo Vadis, who were received by an enthusiastic crowd, and who were obviously reluctant to let the evening end!..." [Heather Lord, Perth]

Quo Vadis played on for 4 full hours of Quo boogie to a packed house with Tonto joining the band on stage for Roadhouse Blues. The atmosphere was superb, with some old classics played as well Big Fat Mama, Blue Eyed Lady, Down the Dustpipe, Break The Rules, Down Down, Roll Over Lay Down, Whatever You Want, Caroline ...and even a couple from the latest album - Rave On & Old Time Rock & Roll.

"... it was a great feeling to dedicate and play Big Fat Mama to the "Greatest Rhythm Guitarist in the World" ..Rick Parfitt! " [Tony Marles, Rhythm Guitar]

Thank you, Status Quo .., particularly Rick and Rhino you are really great guys...

A thank you also to David Walker, Mike Hrano, Greg Nelson and Mel for their help to make this all happen.
